e-HLbc's newest member is Yukon College, a community college uniquely adapted to life in the North. The only post-secondary institution in the territory, Yukon college boasts 13 campuses located across the Yukon.

Video technology allows students outside of Whitehorse to virtually attend classes at the central campus. This decentralized approach gives students the opportunity earn degrees and vocational diplomas without leaving their communities. Thanks to partnerships with multiple universities and colleges, Yukon students can earn degrees science, education, social work and more.

Providing access to online, full-text resources is fundamental part of supporting Yukon College's dispersed student community. Joining e-HLbc meant that the health collections got a big boost, at a relatively low price.

“Because the Yukon College library already subscribed to PsycINFO and PsycARTICLES, we were able to join e-HLbc for only a few hundred dollars more," says Laurie A. Prange-Martin, Yukon College's Information Literacy and Reference Librarian.

"For the thousands of full-text journals that we would be gaining, this was an opportunity that we could not miss! In addition, not only did we get CINAHL, but we got the full-text version for the first time!”

Yukon College offers degrees in social work and nursing, as well as certificates and diplomas in human services, Northern Justice and Criminology, and early childhood education. Membership in e-HLbc helps ensure that these students have access to the same high-quality medical information as students all across BC.

The Yukon Department of Health and Social Services is also a a member of e-HLbc, meaning that students trained at Yukon College will be able to join this workforce with seamless access to information.

Prange-Martin believes that Yukon College's acquisitions will have a ripple effect on the whole community.  “Just a few years ago, the only health library in town closed. Since then, local libraries have had to request their health-related interlibrary loans from institutions down south. Now, they can request these articles from us!“
